Arizona State University Interior Design Students
to Benefit the Family Advocacy Center

Fourth-year interior design students at Arizona State University's College of Design are challenged to design and build a chair that is both inspired by an artist or artistic movement, and makes a statement about the impact of domestic violence on families.

The project is under the direction of faculty associate Marci Lange, FM Solutions, and Michael Kroelinger, chair, ASU Department of Interior Design.

The project is an annual event organized by the city of Phoenix Family Advocacy Center Fundraising Committee, including representatives from IIDA, US Business Interiors, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, the city of Phoenix, FM Solutions, Arizona State University and Phoenix Woman magazine. The event honorary chair is city of Phoenix Vice Mayor Peggy Neely. The chairs will be sold at the upcoming CHAIRity Benefit Dinner and all proceeds benefit the city's Family Advocacy Center.

The designs of the chairs are unique and inspiring. The students are given the challenge of designing and building the chairs in only one month with a budget of $100 plus donations. This project is important to the students and is their way of giving back to the community through their creative designs.

To increase awareness about domestic violence and the Family Advocacy Center, the Southwest Chapter of the International Interior Design Association lends its professional talent and financial support through a scholarship awarded to the winning chair design team. The signature "chair" art will be on display at the Phoenix City Hall atrium prior to the CHAIRity event and featured at a silent auction at the event. Plan to attend this exciting event as we congratulate the ASU student artists and support the city of Phoenix Family Advocacy Center.
